WELCOME TO FOREST DAYS

ABOUT
We are a family of 4 living on an acre property 5 minutes east of Peterborough. Thanks to very generous neighbours we have access to 18 acres of forest and fields where we will explore and experience nature.
My name is Kait and I am a wife, a mom of 2, and I have been working as a registered practical nurse for 10 years.
I love the simple magic of gardening and being outside. I love noticing what kids notice and learning new things with them. I love reading and learning about child development.
BENEFITS
Our goal is to provide children with large amounts of time to become immersed in outdoor, imaginative play.

Play in nature provides children with hands on learning and the opportunity to build social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills.

"In free play, children learn to make their own decisions, solve their own problems, create and abide by rules, and get along with others as equals" - Dr. Peter Gray, Free to Learn
When children just play outside, they are learning:
About the natural world around them and their part in it
How to initiate and execute play schemes
How to cooperate with others
How to regulate emotions during conflict
How to be mentally flexible with other people’s ideas
How to develop a sense of community
Outside, children are better able to move their bodies in ways that develop the vestibular and proprioceptive senses, and in ways that provide sensory integration. They see natural light, which sets in motion physiological responses in the body, including circadian rhythm. They have the autonomy needed to develop risk assessment and resilience.

PROGRAM
We run Wednesdays and Fridays following the traditional school year. Children bring their own lunch. 9:00-3:00. Ages 4-12. $55/day.

Our days will include hiking, climbing, creating structures, identifying plants and animals, gardening, foraging, digging, and weather dependent activities such as water play and tobogganing. In the backyard we will also have access to our shelter and outdoor bathroom.
